20 Posts for 20 Years Series – Post #14

In addition to the National Opportunities that The First Tee offers, our participants have represented our chapter in a number of Regional Opportunities sponsored by The First Tee Chapters along the East Coast.

Each summer, our participants have traveled from here to New England for The Northeast Regional. They’ve visited the Steel City when hosted by The First Tee of Pittsburgh, The Big Apple when hosted by The First Tee of Raritan Valley, The Great State of Connecticut when hosted by The First Tee of Connecticut, and The City of Brotherly Love when hosted by The First Tee of Greater Philadelphia. In 2018, The Northeast Regional grew into The Philly Invitational and is now hosted solely by our friends just up 95-North.

For many years we took the short two hour drive down to our close friends at The First Tee of Greater Richmond for The Redmond Cup. The participants would compete against chapters from Virginia and North Carolina! The Redmond Cup was a 6-person team event in which a female/male pair would play both an 18-hole and 9-hole better ball match hosted at Salisbury Country Club.

In the last year, we have participated for the first time in regional opportunities in New Orleans, Louisiana and Naples, Florida. Last December, six Birdie and Above participants traveled down to The Big Easy for a long weekend of great golf hosted by The First Tee of Greater New Orleans. Shortly after, in February, two participants flew south to The Sunshine State to compete in the The First Tee Champions Challenge associated with The Chubb Classic hosted by The First Tee of Naples/Collier.

It’s clear that our participants have represented us and well! We’re always looking to meet new friends, so here’s to many more years of regional opportunities to travel to.
